COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF
OGONI STUDENTS' (NUOS International), USA 3RD QUARTER MEETING HELD AT THE RADISSON HOTEL & RESORTS AT DOWNTOWN ST.
LOUIS, MISSOURI, USA ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 8, 2005
The 3rd Quarter meeting of NUOS International, USA held
on the above mentioned date deliberated on the state of affairs of NUOS, Ogoni and Nigeria in general and resolved as follows:
1. That the National Union of Ogoni Students (NUOS International, USA) reaffirm that Shell remains persona non-grata
in Ogoniland. We subsequently declare the so-called reconciliation with Shell (by the Rev. Fr. Matthew Kukah led Panel) null
and void.
2. That the Ogoni struggle for self-determination within the Nigerian federation as guaranteed by the
United Nations remains non-negotiable.
3. That as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the hanging of Ken Saro-Wiwa
and others on November 10, 2005, Ogoni Students call on the President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration to exonerate
our leaders from the trump-up charges for which they were convicted and hanged.
4. That we urge the present administration
to adhere to the United Nations recent decision that the Land Use Act be repealed.
5. We demand that the Nigerian
Government and Shell take immediate steps to implement the demands of the Ogoni people as enshrined in the Ogoni Bill of Rights
(OBR).
6. That the National Union of Ogoni Students (NUOS International) USA, welcomes the Houston peace and reconciliation
efforts of MOSOP USA. However, we continue to distance ourselves from "leaders" that continue to negotiate Ogoni
future with oil companies without precondition.
7. Ogoni students call on the Nigerian Government to immediately
take steps to demilitarize the Niger Delta.
8. In accordance with its Bye-Laws, NUOS International, USA dissolved
its Executive Council led by Comrade Anslem D. John-Miller and set up a three member Electoral Council led by Messrs Pius
Barikpoa Nwinee (Chairman), Blessing Wifa (Secretary), and Freddie Idamkue(member) to conduct elections in January 2006 for
a new executive council for the organization.
9. That NUOS International, USA call on all Ogoni students and youths
at home and abroad to come out en masse this November 10 to honor Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Ogoni leaders hanged in 1995.
Signed:
